UPDATE from Paris Train Derailment
By Robin Gregg
According to the
Monroe County Sheriff's Office
at approximately 11am November 17, 2022,
Norfolk Southern Train was traveling westbound & struck a semi pulling an oversized load
which entered the crossing on MO 15/North Main Street in Paris. Both the occupants
of the train
and single occupant of the semi
did
not
report
any injuries.
The train
and
approximately five to
six box cars were derailed. The train was carrying car parts, grain, & car frames. No hazmat. The
semi was hauling a 196ft Silo tank
.
I took these photos on December 10, 2022, three weeks after the derailment. The passive
crossing has been relayed to where traffic can cross. The battery box was smashed and debris
from the cargo in the train cars is scattered including the
wheelsets. As y
ou can see in the photos
there is still a lot of clean up left.
I reached out to the Norfolk Southern Railroad for an official update from them, and have not
received a comment as of this article.
