Mark Twain Wins Homecoming Game 36-16

The Tigers hosted the Wright City Wildcats for Mark Twain’s Homecoming. Coming into the game as underdogs, Mark Twain, with a 1-3 record against the Wildcats 3-1 record, took control of the game in the first quarter and never let go. With a rushing TD and a successful conversion, the Tigers led at the end of the first stanza, 8-0. Scoring with another rushing TD in the second quarter, but an unsuccessful conversion attempt, the Tigers led at the half, 14-0.
Half-time festivities included the introduction of the Homecoming court and the crowning of Evan Torrence as king and Elizabeth Trower as queen. The MTHS Marching Band performed on the field, as did the Cheerleaders. Before the crowning, MTHS Counselor, Adria Palmer, was recognized and presented a plaque for being selected as the Outstanding Counselor for NE Missouri.

Returning to the field after the half, the Tigers picked up where they left off. Adding two more scores in the third quarter.
Offensively, the Tigers had 414 total yards, all rushing. Landon Moss had 219 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Evan Torrence rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Devin Whaley had two successful conversion runs and Gavin Davis rushed for 43 yards on eight carries.

Dawson Talbot led the Mark Twain defense with 15 tackles, one for a loss of Wildcat yards. Torrence had eight tackles and snagged one interception. Whaley and Moss each had six tackles and Moss also grabbed an interception. Trey Monroe made five tackles, two of those for loss of Wildcat yards. Also credited with five tackles were Clayton Turnbull, Gavin Davis, and Austin Shepherd.

Evan Torrence (offense) and Coleman Epperson (defense) were selected as the Mark Twain Football Players of the Game.

The Tigers, now 2-3, will travel to Montgomery City, 4-2, on October 9th.
