Monroe County Celebrates 4-H

November 13, 2025

On Sunday, October 26th, about 150 people gathered at the Paris Ag Dept's Community Room to celebrate 4-H in Monroe County. Members and volunteers were recognized for their efforts, and awards were presented. Jim Burns, Cannon Kids Club leader, was recognized for his 4-H Hall of Fame achievement. Achievement Day certificates were awarded to many, among the winners were Raegan Doerhoff and Chase Stuart. Clover Kids signed a letter of intent (to join 4-H), like what athletes sign when they are going to play collegiate sports. The Lehenbauer twins were among that group. Coach Charlie Rosenkrans recognized our long-standing success in Meat Evaluation. Carter Stuart, Cheyenne Morrow, and Adeline Bondy were some of the members of that team. Hadley Dodge, of Mark Twain 4-H, turned in the top-scoring Secretary's Book. Adeline Bondy was one of the year-end outstanding winners.
After engaging in and competing in various 4-H activities and events throughout the year, 4-H members submit a Book that highlights their efforts. Those books are judged, and several of the night's awards were based on the books. This year, we added a set of awards that focused on the entire year of work members put in with 4-H. We completed 5 levels, with the first level accounting for ~90% of our enrollment, which was achieved by completing up to 4 tasks throughout the year. The higher levels required more engagement and participation. About 25% of the enrollment fell under one of these higher levels. Awards, such as hoodies, backpacks, and buckets full of snacks, were presented to these members.
Charlie Rosenkrans awarded Caleb Chipman with the Dean Rosenkrans Memorial Woodworking Award for his outstanding State Fair-level bench he created this year, using an old tailgate from a pickup. Volunteers like Jessica Echelkamp received awards for being a `Friend of 4-H,' and project leaders reaching anniversary years were thanked with certificates of recognition as well. From first-year leaders like Michelle Ensor and Destinee Johnston to 35-year leaders like Helen Miller.
Families brought in a carry-in meal, and all enjoyed a fun night of food and fellowship. Five of the six clubs had members in attendance.
The new 4-H program year has begun. If you have a child who would like to join and does not know of a specific club, please stop by the Extension office at 229 N. Washington or call 888-577-4158 for more information.
