Night work to temporarily close access to Missouri Route 168 from U.S. Route 61

June 05, 2020

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, on Monday, June 15 crews will start work on a resurfacing Missouri Route 168 from Route JJ to U.S. Route 61 in Hannibal with plans for completion before the Independence Day weekend. “MO 168 will not be accessible from U.S. 61 between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday, June 15 and 16,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Brian Untiedt.

Upon completion of the work near this intersection, resurfacing operations will shift to daytime hours as work progresses to towards the north end of the project near Route JJ. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and motorists will be directed through the work zone with the use of a pilot car. Changeable message signs and static signs will be in place at least one week prior to closure to alert motorists, as schedule changes may occur based on weather.

This contract was awarded earlier this year to Emery Sapp and Sons of Columbia, Missouri for two projects in the amount of $997,461 for overlay resurfacing at the following locations:

Missouri Route 168 from Route JJ to U.S. Route 61 in Hannibal

Route O from U.S. Route 61 south of Hannibal to the end of state maintenance

Work on the project located on Route O in Ralls County will take place later this summer. When a start date is established, MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases and social media.
