Travel Not Advised Saturday - Stay Updated With Online Map and App Northeast Missouri Roads are Covered

January 12, 2019

HANNIBAL - The Missouri Department of Transportation's Northeast District discourages travel today as snow plow crews continue to plow several inches of snow from the roads. "We have been out more than 24 hours now fighting the winter storm, and we have several hours of work ahead of us, so we appreciate the patience of the traveling public," said MoDOT Northeast District Engineer Paula Gough. With nearly every road in northeast Missouri covered with several inches of snow and continuing to fall throughout the day, Gough expects roads to remain covered and partly covered throughout the day. "We have tried to keep the main roads passable and have had an opportunity to get over most of our minor roads, yet the large amount of snowfall means there will more than likely always be snow on the road for awhile," she explained.

From 14" of snow in the Lincoln County area to more than 8" in the northern counties, the first snowstorm of 2019 is a big one. "We were prepared for this storm and are using all our resources available, including some of our co-workers from another part of the state," Gough added. "We just ask drivers please go slowly if you have to go, but we would discourage any travel throughout today," she said.
