Battle of the Cuffs Basketball Game to Be Held at Mark Twain High School

The sixth annual Battle of the Cuffs Basketball Game will be held on Saturday, January 12th at Mark Twain High School. The event will begin at 6:00 pm with a battle between Monroe County and Ralls County area law enforcement.
Ralls County will host the event for the first time this year. Chief Eddie Landis of the Perry Police Department said, “we are hoping to grow it to a tournament and have more teams and agencies involved.” Landis, along with Missouri State Park Ranger Corporal Doug Buie, began Battle of the Cuffs six years ago while working for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Each year, Battle of the Cuffs donates its proceeds to Charity. Both Monroe and Ralls counties have elected to give their share of the proceeds to Cancer support groups within their counties. “I like getting out there, playing, and knowing that we will make some money to donate to charities in our local area,” said Landis. He hopes his Ralls County team can beat the nearly undefeated Monroe County team. Monroe County has only lost one game since Battle of the Cuffs started.
Doug Buie thinks his champion Monroe County team has a good shot of winning again this year.
“I always look forward to playing with other law enforcement officers and having a great time,” said Buie about the event.
Participants of this year’s event include officers from the Perry Police Department, Ralls County Sheriff’s Offices, Missouri State Highway Patrol, New London Police Department, Monroe City Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri Conservation Dept., Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Missouri State Park Rangers.
