Hannibal Regional Designated as High Throughput COVID Vaccination Site for Missouri

February 02, 2021

Hannibal, MO – Monday, February 1, 2021 Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the designation of select hospitals throughout the state as high throughput COVID-19 vaccine distribution sites who will lead regional efforts in mass vaccination clinics. Hannibal Regional Healthcare System is pleased to have been selected as one of Missouri’s high throughput facilities for providing COVID-19 vaccines during the coming weeks, and is designated as the lead hospital for the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B Region. Missouri’s interagency vaccine planning team selected hospitals within all regions of the state who will be receiving just over half of the state’s weekly vaccine allocation through the month of February. Hospitals selected were identified as having the capability to administer 5,000 vaccines per week, although the actual number of vaccines received will vary for each facility and be proportional to their regional population. Hannibal Regional has been informed they will receive approximately 1,300 doses of the Moderna vaccine each week.

“We are committed to fairly allocating doses in regions throughout the state and working with vaccinators to ensure efficient administration of the vaccine,” said Governor Mike Parson. “Our partnership with the selected hospitals will help provide the consistency needed for effective planning of high-volume vaccine clinics to occur at the local level.”

Even though more vaccines will be available, supplies are still limited, and vaccinations will still be administered according to a phased structure based on risk and age. With more vaccines, however, the process should move faster. “We are committed to doing everything we can to help the residents of our region get their COVID vaccine,” said Todd Ahrens, President and CEO of Hannibal Regional Healthcare System. “Our team members and volunteers have helped set up processes to ensure that we are able to safely and efficiently get large numbers of people vaccinated here at Hannibal Regional.”

Hannibal Regional has scheduled a vaccination clinic (by appointment only) for this Thursday, February 4 and will start taking appointments for this clinic Tuesday, February 2 at 1:00 pm. Appointments can be made starting at 1:00 pm today (February 2) by phone at 573-629-3570 or online at hannibalregional.org/COVIDVaccine and is limited to those that meet current state criteria to receive the vaccination (Phase 1A and Phase 1B - Tier 1 and 2). When all appointments have been filled the phone number and online link will close. These vaccines will only be for those eligible people who have not yet received their first dose shot and the vaccine is available by appointment only. As doses are limited, each week Hannibal Regional will assess vaccine availability and open up appointments by phone/link each week. There is no waiting list, and the appointments are on a first come, first serve basis. With the recent high throughput vaccination site designation, Hannibal Regional plans to open up over 1,000 vaccine first-dose appointments to the public each week, but this number may vary as vaccines are shared with Northeast Regional Medical Center and Scotland County Hospital, the other hospitals in Troop B.
