Expansion of the Mark Twain Birth Site Recreational Trail Public Input

January 20, 2021

Public input for support for the expansion of the Mark Twain Birth Site Recreational Trail. This trail is enjoyed by hundreds of citizens of Monroe County and visitors to the Mark Twain Birth Site in Florida, Mo. The trail was sponsored by the Monroe County Commission and developed in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A Federal Highway Agency Grant for Recreational Trails was the basis for most of its funding.

We are seeking to expand the trail around the panoramic bluffs overlooking the Mark Twain Lake in the 2021 grant cycle.

Public comment and support for the trail, as well as financial or volunteer contributions, are being solicited at a public meeting to be held in Florida, Mo. on Saturday, January 30th 2021 at 10:30 am.

The meeting will have plans for the proposed trail expansion and its tentative grant proposal available for review at that time. The meeting shall be held at the Florida Winery, 20578 Monroe Road 543 (Mill Street at Main Street) in Florida, Mo. Anyone wishing to comment on its benefits, volunteer, or contributions are welcome.
