August 02, 2018

Paris, MO- The Monroe County Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee is seeking public input for the Monroe County Missouri Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan currently being updated. The purpose is to provide information to the public on the Hazard Mitigation Plan that is being updated as well as gain public input.

A planning committee comprised of Monroe County Commissioners, cities within Monroe County and school districts is currently updating a Hazard Mitigation Plan with a strategy to reduce the vulnerability of people and property in the County due to the impacts of natural hazards and to become eligible for mitigation funding programs from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The plan addresses a comprehensive list of hazards-ranging from tornadoes to flooding and severe winter weather- and assesses the likely impacts of these hazards to communities in Monroe County.

A copy of the approved 2014 plan can be reviewed at or by visiting the Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments located at 42494 Delaware Lane, Perry, MO 63462. Public comments will be accepted until July 18, 2018 and can be provided to Chandra Beaver at 573-565-2203 or via e-mail at

Feedback from the public will be incorporated into the draft update, which will be available for public review and comment in August of 2018. Upon approval by the SEMA and FEMA the final plan will be presented to the Monroe County Commissioners, City Councils and School Boards of each participating jurisdiction for formal adoption.
