Letters to the Editor

December 10, 2020

Recently, my father, Jim Rives, passed away as a result of kidney failure with a compassionate, caring Monroe Manor Cottage nurse holding his hand. Needless to say, I will forever be grateful that someone who knew my Dad and who really cared was there to be with him during his last earthly moments when I could not be. Like so many other area residence, our family has reached out to the Manor at various times over its 47 year history. Sadly, I’m not sure folks realize how lucky we are to have access to such affordable, quality care. No skilled-care facility is perfect; but, the Manor/Cottage employees have been there time and again doing for our loved ones when circumstances prevent us, the families, from being able to provide needed care.

With all the health challenges of this unusual Christmas season, I ask you to please take the time to thank the various Manor & Cottage employees that have kept the doors open by working extra shifts, longer hours, and often their normal days off to make sure your and my loved ones were and are well cared for. Please don’t forget, it has taken the actions of 6 Manor departments, with over 86 employees, to accomplish this gigantic task for up to 119 residents, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Imagine what our lives would have been like without access to the Manor for nearly half a century.
